Neeraj Chopra, born on December 24, 1997, in Khandra, Haryana, India, is a prominent Indian javelin thrower. He gained international fame by winning the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic gold in athletics. Chopra’s athletic prowess emerged early, and he quickly became a dominant figure in javelin throw. He also won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. His dedication and exceptional performance have made him a national hero and a significant figure in Indian sports, inspiring many young athletes across the country.
Teased about childhood obesity, Chopra’s father enrolled him in a gymnasium at Madlauda, later in Panipat. While playing at Shivaji Stadium in Panipat, he saw javelin throwers and began participating himself.
Career Turning Point
At the National Junior Athletics Championships in Lucknow on 27 October 2012, he won gold with a new national record throw of 68.40 meters.
